The multi-purpose ship Island Dolphin is sailing from Europe via the Suez Canal on her Company’s Indian Ocean Service. Her port rotation as shown on her published schedule is : Southampton (STN), Colombo (Sri Lanka – CMB). Port Louis (Mauritius – PTL) Mombasa (Kenya – MOM), and returning to Southampton via Suez.

Some facts about the ship and her voyage :

  • Five hatches, each served by a 25-ton crane, except number 3 hatch which has two 30-ton cranes which can work in tandem.
  • Numbers 1, 2, 3 and 4 hatches have a tweendeck and lower hold
  • Number 5 hatch is a cellular container hatch with a capacity for 240 40-foot containers.
  • Atop the hatch covers, she has the following container capacity
  • Number 1 hatch : 24 teu
  • Number 2 hatch : 50 teu
  • Number 3 hatch : 50 teu
  • Number 4 hatch : 50 teu
  • Number 5 hatch : 50 teu, all of which have plugs for integral containers
  • In Colombo, cargo is handled at the following rates :
  • Containers: 10 per hour per hatch
  • Break-bulk cargo: 120 tons per hour per hatch
  • Bulk cargo: 200 tons per hour per hatch
  • Heavy lifts (Any single item over 20 tons or any vehicle): 4 per hour
