Entry requirements for a navigating cadet and an engineering cadet are : National Senior Certificate (“Matric”) with more than 50 percent in mathematics, physical sciences and English. Following this is a period of study at the Maritime Studies Department at either the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) in Cape Town or the Durban University of Technology (DUT) in Durban. (NB : Prospective cadets should ascertain the exact duration and contents of these courses before applying as the structure is due to change shortly. Note also that marine engineer cadets need to complete a practical engineering course at a recognised training school after completing the marine engineering course at CPUT or DUT.)
