The engine control room on a large modern gas carrier. It is next to the engineroom. This is a very important place on a ship as the ship’s main engine(s), generators and pumps, as well as refrigeration, air conditioning, freshwater, sewerage,  and electrical systems are operated and monitored from here.  As you can see, all systems are highly automated and a lot of electronics are involved. Photograph : Captain Steve Tucker
