The Deck log is kept by the officers of the watch and usually includes the following information:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Courses steered.<\/li>\n<li>Compass errors.<\/li>\n<li>Engine movements.<\/li>\n<li>Daily distances covered.<\/li>\n<li>Time of passing important headlands.<\/li>\n<li>Positions and times of altering course.<\/li>\n<li>Noon positions.<\/li>\n<li>Weather and sea conditions.<\/li>\n<li>Soundings of tanks.<\/li>\n<li>In harbour:\n<ul>\n<li>The loading and discharging of cargo.<\/li>\n<li>The draughts forward and aft.<\/li>\n<li>The times of entering and leaving port.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<li>Important details concerning emergencies and accidents.<\/li>\n<li>Any other incident or happening of note.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>All ships are required to keep a deck and engine room log in order to keep a record of activities during a voyage.
